We are currently in need of foster care volunteers to foster animals that are too young for adoption, pregnant, nursing, sick or have behavioral issues. Foster care is generally short term and is a very rewarding experience! For more information call 706-343-9977!

Cold weather tips for your pet!

1. The best rule for winter pet care is to bring pets inside!

2. Make sure the ice is broken on outside water for pets during extended periods of freezing temperatures.

3. Keep animals away from antifreeze, this is lethal to pets who are attracted to the sweet smell

4. Puppies do not tolerate cold as well as adult dogs, so house training may be more difficult in the colder months.

5. If your pet indulges in outdoor activities during extreme cold, increase feed intake, particularly protein.

6. Cats may be attracted to warm engines in the extreme cold, make a habit of knocking on your car's hood before cracking it.

7. Don't groom your animals close to the skin in the winter months

8. Don't let your pets off leash during extreme cold as they may have a more difficult time finding their way back to you as they have a reduced sense of smell in the cold.

9. Just as in extreme heat, do not leave pets in cars during extreme cold! Cars can act like freezers, trapping the cold air, leaving pets little protection.
